Starting May 7, 2025, U.S. residents will need a REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification to board domestic flights and access federal facilities.

​What is a REAL ID?

• A REAL ID is a new ID that meets security standards for identification 
• REAL ID-compliant cards have a star or flag in the upper right corner, or say "Enhanced"

What are acceptable alternatives to a REAL ID? 

• A passport or passport card
• A state-issued Enhanced Driver's License
• A U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
• DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)

What if I don't have a REAL ID?

• You can visit your local DMV to learn more 
• You can use the interactive tool on the Homeland Security website www.dhs.gov/ to find out if you're REAL ID ready.
